Description
Penlan Chapel is a classical building featuring a three-bay open pedimented front, finished in painted render and accentuated by giant order Doric pilasters. The façade includes a stepped out entablature and other decorative details. It has a slate roof with small gabled ventilators. A rusticated giant arch rises at the center over a corbelled datestone. The central window, inspired by Venetian design, has round arched heads, keystones, and pilasters with large bases that extend below the cill. The tall outer windows have moulded architraves, and the central entrance features panelled double doors with similar detailing.
On the left side, there is a five-bay arrangement with similar windows set in shallow recesses, and the hall range extends by one bay on this side. The windows on the right side are smaller panes.
Inside, the chapel has rectangular galleries supported by timber columns, with boarded panels at the gallery front and raked seating. The ceiling is panelled and adorned with ornate roses. The organ chamber arch features paired fluted pilasters with a sunburst design, and the hall has a four-bay boarded ceiling with fluted pilasters, reflecting similar decorative elements.
