Description
The outbuildings located to the rear of Penlan Fawr Public House are an L-plan structure dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The main building is a single-storey barn constructed of rubble, partially whitewashed, and features a stepped gable at the right end. It has a slate roof with a gabled dormer positioned to the right of the entrance, which now has a modern door. The barn includes one sash window and a fixed glazed window on the gable end, along with six-pane sash windows on the rear. Inside, the barn has been lofted and boasts a four-bay A-frame roof with chamfered collars and lapped purlins. There is a blocked window at the left end where later stables adjoin, as well as a blocked doorway that once led to the stable loft.
Adjacent to the barn, at right angles, is a low stable building from the 19th century, which was formerly lofted. This structure is also built of whitewashed rubble and has a slate roof, featuring a swept roof over the main entrance that leads to the loft door. The stable has a three-bay roof supported by metal pegged trusses.
