Description
The gate piers at Overtoun West Lodge, designed by architect James Thomson of Glasgow, were built in 1895. They consist of two tall square inner gate piers featuring Renaissance details, which are panelled and adorned with strings and crests, topped with cornices and finials. There are smaller, simplified piers for the pedestrian entrance. The piers are made of polished ashlar and are complemented by elaborately decorated wrought-iron gates. Long quadrant walls extend to the north and south, constructed of stugged ashlar with polished coping, and are partly pierced with circles and diamonds.
