Overtoun West Lodge, Overtoun Hospital

Overtoun West Lodge, designed by architect James Thomson of Glasgow, was built in 1895 and is a 2-storey Scottish Baronial former gate lodge. The building features stugged and snecked ashlar with polished dressings.

The north elevation includes a drum tower on the west side and an advanced bay on the east, which flanks the entrance bay. This entrance bay has a pilastered segmental-headed door and paired round-headed lights, with a window above that features a thistle-finialed dormer head. The advanced and gabled bay has a canted ground floor window and a crenellated parapet, while the conical-roofed angle tower has paired round-headed lights that are corbelled at the first and second floors, with the upper part decorated with circles and diamonds.

On the west gable, there is a projecting tripartite window on the ground floor, with a window above that has a pedimented dormer head. The windows are mainly designed with mullions and transoms, and there is a continuous cill course at the ground floor. Other architectural details include moulded eaves, crow-stepped and finialed gables, panelled and corniced stacks, and a slate roof. The interior is simple, featuring twisted stair balusters.
