Description

J T Rochead, architect. Built 1853. Asymmetrical 2-storey

3-bay villa with Tudor-Gothic arched openings. Stugged ashlar

with polished dressings. North elevation: stair with

ball-finialed balustrade leads to roll-moulded and

hoodmoulded doorway in left bay; door is recessed, with

vertical panels; single window in central bay retains

original glazing (other windows plate glass or 4-pane);

tripartites in gabled right bay, canted with felt tile roof

at ground, tall central light below plaque in gable head

above; gabled wall-head dormers to remaining bays. Projecting

eaves; cut-down end stacks; slate roof.

South elevation also 3 bays with off-centre low, piended

scullery projecting to south, later projecting 4-light ground

floor bay to left, stepped 3-light leaded stair window with

taller central light in gabled central bay, wall-head

dormers, with roof swept over, to outer bays.

Interior: panelled doors; turned wooden stair balusters;

decorative cornice plasterwork and ceiling roses; south west

ground floor room has pedimented chimney-piece and anthemion

patterned ceiling paper.
