Gateway And Garden Walls, Levenford House, Helenslee Road, Dumbarton

The gateway and garden walls at Levenford House on Helenslee Road in Dumbarton were designed by architect J T Rochead and built around 1853. The structure features a round-arched and rope-moulded gateway leading to West Bridgend, which is flanked by blind slits and conical-roofed round turrets. The coping is raised over a central panel, and there are three wooden gates. The boundary wall to West Bridgend is crenellated and was extended north and south later in the century. The north and south garden walls are stepped to follow the slope of the land, and the gateway to Helenslee Road includes dummy gun ports but lacks gatepiers. All elements are constructed from squared rubble with ashlar dressings.
