Description
Bridgend Church Hall in West Bridgend, Dumbarton, was designed by architect William Spence and built in 1860. Originally a rectangular-plan church, it features a vestry, a tower with a spire, and a lower session house that projects to the east. The three-stage tower is chamfered to an octagonal shape and includes a porch at its base, small cusped lights, trefoils, and narrow belfry lights, all rising with gabled heads into the spire, which is topped with diminutive lucarnes and a weather vane.
The building has paired two-centred arched windows and gables adorned with tall, intersecting traceried windows. There are two shallow porches on the south gable. Architectural details include block eaves, saw-tooth skews, gabletted skewputts, and slated roofs. The church hall is set behind an ashlar-coped rubble wall, with square gatepiers featuring decorative gabled caps, modern iron railings, and cast-iron gates with spiked rails. A cemetery enclosure is located at the rear.
