Description
The Congregational Church on King Street in Nairn was built by James Matthews between 1860 and 1861. It features a Gothic design with a cruciform plan, a two-stage tower, and a broached spire located at the southeast corner. The church is constructed from rubble with broached ashlar dressings. There is a gabled porch on the north wall of the tower in the re-entrant angle. The windows are simple lancets, arranged in pairs or triples at the gable ends. The building has sawtoothed skews, stone finials, and a slate roof. Inside, the original interior is simply galleried. Attached to the northeast is a two-bay rectangular church hall, built around the same time and in a similar style, featuring coped rubble walls.
