Lodge, Keil School, Helenslee Road, Kirktonhill, Dumbarton

The lodge at Keil School on Helenslee Road in Kirktonhill, Dumbarton, was likely designed by architect John Honeyman and built around 1865. It is a symmetrical, single-storey structure with three bays, constructed from stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The lodge features a central gabled porch with a panelled two-leaf door, which has a monogram (PHD) above it, and is flanked by banded pilasters. The windows are plate glass sashes, and the building has channelled angle pilasters, a cill band, and an eaves/lintel band. The projecting eaves lead to a piended slate roof that includes a central corniced and rendered stack.

The entrance is marked by corniced, square, polished ashlar gatepiers that are connected by low quadrant walls and a wooden railing topped with slate. The gatepiers flanking the main drive have ball finials and may date from the same period as the original house. The entrance is completed with cast-iron gates.
