Description
The lodge at the entrance gate to the Royal Scottish National Hospital on Bellsdyke Road in Larbert was likely built between 1862 and 1864. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring an asymmetrical design. The exterior is constructed from snecked and stugged ashlar, with polished ashlar dressings at the canted bay, raised quoin angles, and base courses. It has a moulded eaves cornice and segmentally arched, mullioned windows that have chamfered arrises and plate glass sashes. The roof is covered with grey slates and includes corniced ashlar stacks with decorative cans, along with bracketted skewputts and gablet skews.
The front elevation features an L-plan layout with a segmentally headed doorway that has a door with a plain fanlight. To the right of the doorway is a bipartite window. The left side has a finialled gable with a piended canted bay at the ground floor and a bipartite window in the attic.
