Lodge And Gates, Methlan Park House, Dumbarton

The lodge and gates at Methlan Park House in Dumbarton were designed by architect John Macleod and constructed between 1880 and 1881. This single-storey lodge is built in an L-plan configuration, featuring a porch in the re-entrant angle and a single window to the right. The north elevation includes a bowed 3-light window in the advanced left bay. The exterior is made of coursed, stugged ashlar with polished dressings and rusticated quoins. There are two windows on the east elevation, and the building has an eaves course and a piended slate roof with projecting eaves that curve over the bowed window.

The entrance is marked by three square gatepiers, each topped with a bracketed cornice and a decorative cap. Low quadrant walls, with the southern wall curved and stepped to follow the slope, connect to lower terminal piers. All elements are finished in painted ashlar, and the property features decorative wrought-iron gates.
