Description
6 Dixon Drive in Dumbarton is a villa built around 1870-1880, likely designed by architect John MacLeod. This two-storey, three-bay structure features a low wing extending to the north and a conservatory attached to the west wall. The exterior is made of coursed, stugged ashlar with polished dressings.
On the south elevation, there is a central round-headed door with a fanlight and a simple door piece, with a single window above on the first floor. The left bay has a two-storey, semi-circular five-light window that is slightly taller, while the right bay contains bipartite windows that project at the ground floor. A decorative band course runs above the ground floor, and all windows are set in chamfered reveals. The building has end stacks, a piended slate roof with projecting eaves, and cast-iron cresting.
The conservatory features a pedimented two-leaf door on the south elevation and a semi-octagonal west end. Its roof is raised at the apex with ventilator windows and has cast-iron cresting above.
Additionally, there are three square polished ashlar gatepiers, each set on a battered plinth with engaged columns at the angles and shaped tops, along with decorative cast-iron gates.
