Description
2 Dixon Drive in Dumbarton is a double villa designed by probably John MacLeod, built around 1870-1880. The building is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and an attic, constructed from coursed stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The main doors are located on the side walls and are sheltered by gabled timber porches. Each of the principal south elevations has two bays, with two-storey canted windows in the outer bays and faceted roofs. The central ground floor windows project, with bipartite windows above them. A continuous string course runs at the first floor cill level, and all windows are framed in roll-moulded architraves, which may be mullioned, transomed, or both. The dormers are adorned with barge boards, and the stacks are symmetrically placed. The roofs are finialed and slated, steeply pitched over the slightly taller outer bays. The entrance is marked by simple, square polished ashlar gatepiers topped with pointed octagonal caps, flanked by decorative cast-iron gates.
