Description
The lodge at Levengrove Park in Dumbarton was built between 1884 and 1885, shortly before the park opened on May 26, 1885. This picturesque lodge is designed in an L-shape and features a single storey with an attic. It is constructed of stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The entrance is located in the re-entrant angle and is highlighted by an ogee arcaded verandah beneath a swept roof. The gable ends boast projecting ground floor windows that include applied timber framing and decorative plaster panels on the jettied attic. A substantial corniced stack is positioned over the east gable. The lodge has projecting eaves and a red tile roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles. There are three square gatepiers, originally four, which have shaped caps and ball finials, along with cast-iron gates.
