Lodge And Gatepiers, 94 Monifieth Road, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

The lodge and gatepiers at 94 Monifieth Road in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, were designed by James MacLaren and George Shaw Aitken in the later 19th century. This single-storey lodge is in an L-plan layout with an extension, constructed from snecked rubble with a harled extension, featuring painted margins and chamfered rusticated quoins, topped with a slate roof. The building includes 2- and 4-pane sash and case windows, moulded eaves, acroteria on the gables, and a moulded stack.

On the west elevation, there is a corniced rectangular porch located in the re-entrant, supported by a pier and pilasters, with an entrance door and a single window to the left. The advanced gable on the right features a canted window with a cornice and a small panel in the gable. A window is present in the set-back extension on the right, which has a cat-slide roof.

The north gable displays a tripartite window and a cartouche at the gable. The wall and gatepiers consist of four painted gatepiers with bases, carved panels, and heavily moulded stylised caps. There are low flanking walls, partly in a quadrant shape, which terminate in two plain pyramidal capped piers. The original design included gates and railings.
