Description

Rock-Knowe is a late 19th-century single-storey and attic building that originally served as a stable court for Rocknowe House. It has a rectangular plan and is constructed from snecked and coursed sandstone rubble, featuring tooled dressings at the angles and openings, and a grey slate roof. The building includes 8-pane sash and case windows, coped skews with skewblocks, and moulded coped gablehead stacks with corbel details on the south side.

The south elevation is symmetrical with three bays. It has a central carriage entrance featuring a keystoned elliptical arch with a cavetto surround and pilasters. Above this entrance is a hayloft door located in a gabled dormer topped with a weathervane finial. The left and right gable bays are slightly advanced, with a door and window on the left and two windows on the right, along with small chamfered blank openings above.

On the east elevation, there is a cottage block on the left with a central door flanked by windows, and a lean-to structure on the right. To the outer right, there is a single-storey block with a piended roof.

The north elevation features three gable bays, with the central gable advanced and the right gable further advanced. This side includes various doors and windows, including a hay door at the centre and a gable dormerhead at the left return of the right gable.

The west elevation has four boarded ventilator openings that were used for the stable.

Inside, there are remains of trevises on the west wall and a cooking range located in the northwest attic.
