Description

Hunthill Stable Court is a single-storey stable court built in the later to late 19th century, arranged in a U-shape and comprising a cottage, stables, and garaging. It is constructed from square and snecked cream sandstone rubble, featuring stugged ashlar dressings and stop-chamfered arrises, with overhanging eaves and exposed rafters.

The south range includes a cottage or lodge, characterized by a broad projecting canted bay on the left with windows on each face and a piended roof. To the right, there is a gabled stone porch set at an angle in the re-entrant angle, featuring a boarded door with a fanlight in a pointed-arch frame and a blank shield above. The central bay has a window, while the outer right bay is slightly advanced and includes a bipartite window at its center with a blank shield above. The courtyard elevation has three bays with a central door flanked by windows. The west gable has a narrow window at the ground level and an apex stack.

The east range features a low single-storey section to the left with four windows, and a tall gable of the stable to the right with a ground-level window and open wooden steps leading to a hay loft door. The courtyard elevation has three segmental-arched openings; the left one is open with a door behind, while the center and right openings have two-leaf boarded garage doors.

The north range contains stables with a hay loft above. Its two-storey outer elevation has four square windows. The courtyard elevation features a segmental-arched opening to the stables at the center, a door to the right, and a window to the left, with a later single-storey lean-to added to the left. The two-storey west gable has windows on both floors. The building includes cast-iron rooflights and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, with plate glass in the bipartite window. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped stugged ashlar stacks.
