Description

East Cottage, located on Allerley Brae, Oxnam Road in Jedburgh, is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house featuring a shared gable on the west side. The exterior is constructed from square and snecked cream sandstone rubble, with harling on the side and rear elevations and ashlar margins.

On the northeast elevation, there are three bays. The central bay has a corniced ashlar doorcase with a replacement panelled door. Above this door and in the left bay, there are windows on both floors. To the right, there is a full-height canted timber bay, which includes cornices on both floors, sunken aprons, and a flat lead roof.

The east elevation is gabled with a stack at the apex and has windows on both floors to the right. There is a single-storey flat-roofed rear porch on the left side.

The south elevation features a central piend-roofed stair-tower and a porch to the right. The windows throughout the house are 12-pane timber sash and case, with 4-pane and 2-pane windows in the canted bay. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar skews and brick stacks. Iron rooflights are present on the rear. The interior was not seen in 1992.
