Description

This building is an early 19th century gabled two-storey three-bay L-plan house that was altered and extended to a square shape by James P Alison in 1897. It is constructed of cream rubble with smooth ashlar margins and stugged ashlar quoins, featuring cills.

On the south (front) elevation, there are three bays with a panelled door and rectangular fanlight in the center. The doorcase has a moulded architrave and cornice. Above the door, the first-floor windows and the window to the left break the eaves, topped with pedimented dormerheads. There is a single window at ground level, and to the right, a full-height canted bay features a cornice above the ground floor and moulded eaves. A stone ball is mounted on a simple iron bracket at the southwest angle.

The west elevation has an M-gabled roof and four irregularly disposed bays. An advanced single-storey three-bay range with a door at the center and a piended roof adjoins the north gable at ground level to the south and extends to the north. There is a single window in the south return wall and a narrow window immediately to the right. At the first floor, there is a single window to the left and a stair window with a stone mullion and transom to the right. The south gable has a window at the upper left and lower right, with gablehead stacks.

On the north elevation, there are three bays; the two identical left bays have windows on both floors flanking a gablehead stack. A panelled side door with a rectangular fanlight is located between the central and right bays, with the right bay featuring a bathroom window at ground level and a bipartite window above. An advanced single bay single-storey range to the right has a split door under a gable.

The east elevation is a blank gable with a stack to the left, which is slightly advanced. To the right, there are two identical bays with windows on both floors, and the first-floor windows break the eaves with open pedimented dormerheads. The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, with a 12-pane window in the single-storey range. The rubble stacks have stugged ashlar dressings and coping, with ashlar coped skews and scrolled skewputts featuring rosettes. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are cast-iron downpipes.

Inside, the original grained panelling from 1897 is present in the hall and dining room, along with corresponding Jacobethan fireplaces. A panel to the right of the south window in the dining room conceals a peep hole. There are also old but thoroughly rebuilt irregular M-roofed garages to the north.
