Description
75 Dundee Road in West Ferry, Dundee, is a lodge attributed to James MacLaren, built around 1863. It is a single-storey, L-plan structure with an addition, constructed from tooled pink sandstone coursers and rubble at the rear, featuring painted dressings and a grey slate roof. The building has unsympathetic uPVC windows, deep eaves, and decorative bargeboards.
On the west elevation, there is an open porch at the right re-entrant with a door and fanlight, along with an ornate cast-iron lamp and bracket positioned at a right angle. The left side features an advanced gable with a canted window. The south elevation has a gable on the right with a canted window, while the north elevation has a window on the left.
The property is complemented by five ornate panelled gatepiers with modillioned pyramidal caps and quadrants, along with five additional, plainer pyramidal capped gatepiers. The wall is made of pink sandstone courses, featuring a base course, saddleback coping, and patera motif decoration.
