Lodge, Ardness House, 327 Perth Road, Dundee

The lodge at Ardness House, located at 327 Perth Road in Dundee, is a Victorian Italianate villa designed by James MacLaren around 1865. It is a two-storey structure built with ashlar stone, featuring painted dressings and quoins.

On the south elevation, the building has a three-bay layout. The center bay on the ground floor is slightly advanced and includes a triple arched window with keystones and a cornice above. Flanking this are corniced canted bays with lead roofs and bracketed eaves. The first floor features shallow segmental-headed bipartite windows with keystones and an eaves cornice.

The east elevation includes a porch that may have originally been intended for a basket-arched entrance, similar to that at No. 325. To the right, there are 1- and 2-light segmental arched windows, channelled pilasters, and a cornice. The ground floor has a window that is consoled and corniced, while the first floor has three segmental arched windows.

The roof is covered with slate and features piended and platformed sections, along with wallhead stacks on the side elevations. The windows are sash and case with a 2-pane glazing pattern.

The lodge itself is a two-storey, L-plan building constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. It has keystoned segmental arched windows and a door, with 1- and 2-light configurations. The eaves are bracketed, and the roof is piended with wallhead stacks. The windows here are also sash and case, but with a 4-pane glazing pattern.

The property is marked by three square capped gatepiers and a low boundary wall along Perth Road, with higher walls on the sides and rear.
