Description
Taypark, located at 484 Perth Road in Dundee, is a two-storey Scots Baronial building dating from around 1863, with an extension added in 1916 by the architectural firm Thoms and Wilkie. The structure is built from ashlar stone.
The east elevation features a doorpiece with Corinthian columns and a pediment, which includes a carved tympanum. Above this, there are two windows set beneath steep gablets. An advanced crow-stepped gabled bay has a canted window on the ground floor, a strapworked parapet, a bipartite window above, and a single attic light. To the right, there is a crow-stepped gablet.
On the southeast side, a turret is corbelled out at the first floor level, with a chamfered angle, a corbel course, and a steep conical roof topped with a wrought-iron finial.
The south elevation features a steep crow-stepped gabled bay with a canted window on the ground floor, similar in detailing to the east gable. There is a projecting tripartite section with a stepped hoodmould and an armorial, along with two single windows in crow-stepped gablets above. A modern dormer is also present.
The west elevation has twin crow-stepped gables with ground floor canted windows. The range to the left has been remodelled and heightened in 1916 by Thoms and Wilkie, featuring gabletted first-floor windows and an octagonal slate-roofed cupola.
The building is topped with steep slate roofs and has ashlar stacks, which are decoratively carved except for the northern gable, which has been rebuilt in rendered brick. The windows are sash and case, featuring a mix of 2- and 4-pane glazing patterns, with 12-pane windows in the section added by Thoms and Wilkie.
