Seafield House, 86 Eglinton Road, Ardrossan

Seafield House, located at 86 Eglinton Road in Ardrossan, is a Scottish Baronial style building originally constructed in 1820 and substantially rebuilt in 1858 by Thomas Gildard, with a tower added at the rear in 1881. The house is two storeys high and features five bays on the south front, constructed from painted stugged ashlar.

The central bay is distinguished by a crowstepped gable, flanked by two bays with decorative wall head gables. The western bay is advanced and also has a crowstepped gable, along with a two-storey, five-light canted bay. The eastern bay projects slightly and includes a corbelled turret in the re-entrant angle, topped with a crowstepped gable.

In the western re-entrant angle, there is a four-storey entrance turret featuring roll-moulded dressings around the door, string courses, narrow windows, and boldly carved arms, crests, and devices. The frieze includes nailhead decoration, and the cornice leads to a conical roof with banded patterns in the slate, topped with a tall weather vane.

The west elevation has three asymmetrical bays, with the northern bay advanced and corbelled above the ground storey, also featuring a crowstepped gable. A tall French mansard tower with an iron balcony is present, and the slate roof covers the stairhall added in 1858.
