Description

The Lodge at Elmslea House, located at 325 Perth Road in Dundee, is a two-storey villa designed in the Italianate style by James MacLaren around 1865. It is constructed of ashlar stone with painted dressings and quoins.

The south elevation features three bays, with the central ground floor bay slightly advanced. This bay includes a triple arched window with a keystone and a cornice above. Flanking this are canted bays topped with lead roofs and bracketted eaves. On the first floor, there are shallow segmental-headed bipartite windows with keystones, and a bracketted cast-iron railed plant box is positioned in front of the central window.

On the east elevation, there is a basket-arched porch supported by a square pier, with a triple-light segmental arched window to the right and a parapet above. To the left of the door, there is a ground floor window with a cornice and consoles. The first floor has three segmental arched windows. A modern outside stair has been added to the rear.

The building features bracketted eaves and a piended slate roof with platform sections. There are wallhead stacks on the side elevations, and the windows are sash and case with a two-pane glazing pattern.

The Lodge itself is two-storey and L-shaped, built of snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins. It has keystoned segmental arched windows and a porch door located in the re-entrant angle. An eaves band runs along the top, and the roof is piended with slate. A later rendered extension has been added to the north, and the windows are sash and case with an eight-pane glazing pattern.

The property is enclosed by three square, capped gatepiers and a low boundary wall along Perth Road, with higher walls on the sides and rear.
