Lodge, Kirkhill Hotel, Gorebridge

The lodge at Kirkhill Hotel in Gorebridge, dated 1883, is a single-storey, single-bay building with a rectangular plan. It is constructed from squared and snecked tooled sandstone, featuring stugged dressings that are droved to the margins. The design includes projecting cills, raised margins, chamfered reveals, long and short quoins, and overhanging eaves with timber bargeboards.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, is near-symmetrical. It has a gabled porch that projects to the center, featuring a segmental-arched doorway with a replacement panelled timber door and a letterbox fanlight. A tooled panel inscribed "W.J. 1883" (for William Johnston) is set in the gablehead, with a window to the left return. There is also a small window flanking the porch on the left, and a harled 20th-century addition on the right.

The west and south elevations were not seen in 1998. The east elevation is asymmetrical, with a canted three-light window located off-center to the right. The lodge predominantly features two-pane timber windows with top hoppers and has a grey slate roof with a lead ridge. There is a coped, harled ridge stack with a circular can and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The gatepiers are polished, square-plan structures painted white with stop-chamfered angles, featuring a blank frieze with a corniced neck and a ball finial. The boundary includes rubble quadrant walls topped with ashlar coping and surmounted by ironwork railings.
