Lodge And Gateway, Seafield Sick Children's Hospital, Doonfoot Road, Ayr

The lodge and gateway at Seafield Sick Children's Hospital on Doonfoot Road in Ayr were designed by Clarke & Bell and RA Bryden around 1880. This single-storey, three-bay lodge is arranged in an L-shape and constructed from coursed, squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. It features a base course, an eaves course, a bracketed cornice, and strip quoins.

On the northeast (entrance) elevation, there are steps leading to a shouldered open porch with a timber door. To the left of the porch is a single window, and to the outer right is a canted advanced bay. The northwest (side) elevation has a single central window. The southeast (rear) elevation includes a single window to the left, a timber door leading to a catslide section on the right, and a single window returning to the left. The southwest elevation was not visible in 1999.

The lodge features timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with pitched stacks and circular cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1999.

The gatepiers, railings, and boundary wall consist of paired square-plan dentilled gatepiers with a low coped wall between them. High decorative iron railings sit atop the wall, which is higher and encloses the site.
