Ayr, Doonfoot Road, View House, Boundary Wall

View House, located on Doonfoot Road in Ayr, is a 2-storey, 8-bay building constructed in 1867 by James McDerment. This near rectangular-plan, symmetrical structure was part of the former Ayr racecourse and features classical detailing on its north-west elevation. The exterior is made of coursed sandstone rubble with harl on the rear and raised margins. It includes a base course, a band course, and overhanging eaves with timber detailing. The former central round-arched entrance on the street elevation has a dentilled rusticated doorway, which is currently a window.

The building has a piended roof covered with grey slates and coped ridge stacks. The windows are mainly 4-over 4-pane timber sash and case.

The interior, partially observed in 2014, contains changing rooms on the upper floors, a single common room, and a residential flat.

Additionally, there is a coped rubble boundary wall along the street elevation, featuring a pair of pyramidal-capped gatepiers and a decorative metal gate.
