Riverston, Dee Bank Road, Ballter

Riverston is an 1842 single storey and attic L-plan cottage located on Dee Bank Road in Ballter. The cottage features a symmetrical three-bay elevation facing west, which is the street side, and has pedimented skewputted dormers that break the wallhead. There may be a later 19th-century addition at the northwest corner. The exterior is finished with white painted harl and has pink granite margins. The south elevation, which faces the garden, includes a timber six-panel door with timber pilaster jambs, a narrow two-light fan light, and granite console detail above in the re-entrant angle.

The north elevation is irregular, with a blank gable wall on the right side. To the left, there is a four-panel timber door with narrow timber pilasters and a fan light above. This elevation also has two windows on the ground floor and a 20th-century dormer above. The east section predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the north section has four-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has raised coped skews and gable stacks.

Inside, although the cottage has been modernised, much of the original floorplan remains discernible.
