Muir Cottage

Muir Cottage is a late 18th century, single storey and attic, three-bay cottage designed in an L-plan, which has undergone later additions and alterations. The exterior is harled with a base course.

The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical. It features a gabled, boarded timber porch that projects from the center of the ground floor, adorned with decorative barge boards. A panelled timber door is flanked by two small windows, with additional windows in the flanking bays to the left and right. The attic floor has two bipartite, gableted timber dormers, also with decorative barge boards, positioned to the left and right.

The southeast elevation is asymmetrical and gabled, with a window located off-centre to the right of the ground floor. The northeast elevation is also asymmetrical and consists of three bays. It has a central window, with the left flanking bay left blank. A gabled bay is advanced to the right, featuring a glazed timber door flanked by a window on the left return and a small window on the right return. The northwest elevation is gabled and asymmetrical, with a window off-centre to the left of the ground floor.

The cottage predominantly features six-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a tiled ridge. Stone skews are present, with blocked skewputts. The gablehead stacks are made of corniced granite ashlar and have octagonal cans, while cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.

The interior was not seen in 1999.
