Description

This building, located at 9 Dee Bank Road in Ballater, dates from around 1860 and is a single-storey house with an attic, featuring three bays in a simple classical style. It is constructed from coursed pink granite. The south elevation, which faces the garden, is symmetrical and highlighted by a prominent central timber Doric porch and gabled dormers that break the eaves. The flanking windows have decorative timber console details above them. The entrance features a boarded timber door with a simple four-pane rectangular fanlight above.

On the south side, there are 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the ground floor and vertical 6-pane timber sash and case windows in the attic. The roof is covered with grey graded slates, and there are raised coped skews and gable stacks.

Inside, the original room layout remains largely unchanged in the main part of the house. There is a fine timber banister with a curved detail at the first storey, and the public rooms feature four-panel timber doors with some unusually deep skirting. Some original iron fire surrounds with simple classical chimneypieces are also present.

The boundary walls consist of a high rubble wall with rubble coping on the east side of the garden, extending towards the River Dee.
