Strathaven Hotel, Hamilton Road, Strathaven

The Strathaven Hotel, dated 1797 above the door, is a three-storey, three-bay classical mansion house with single-storey flanking wings. It is constructed of droved ashlar with polished dressings and architraves. The entrance is located in the central bay, which is slightly advanced and features a pediment. This bay has a pilastered doorcase adorned with a triglyph frieze and a mutule cornice. The building has 12-pane sash windows set in lugged architraves throughout, with first-floor windows featuring a cill course and cornice. Broad pilaster strips are positioned at the corners, and there are two symmetrically placed corniced stacks. The roof is piended and covered with slate, featuring central dormers on the two-bay side elevations. The flanking wings include inner tripartite windows and Venetian windows in the pedimented outer bays. Inside, there is some notable plasterwork, chimney pieces, and pedimented doorcases, although some alterations have been made. A low flat-roofed extension is present at the rear.
