Herbertfield, 59 Burnbank Road, Hamilton

Herbertfield, located at 59 Burnbank Road in Hamilton, is a large, asymmetrical villa built around 1850. It features two storeys and a dormerless attic, constructed with stugged coursers and ashlar dressings. The building has an L-plan front with an advanced gable on the left side, which includes a single-storey, three-light canted bay window and a stepped three-light window on the first floor. The upper part of the center light has a stained glass panel. There is a central door with a rectangular fanlight and bipartite windows to the right.

At the rear, the villa has a three-window layout with a single-storey outshot that has been heightened to two storeys in cement render. The roof is slated with bracketed eaves, barge boards, and a pendant on the front gable. The end stacks are rendered and corniced, and there are Velux windows on the rear. The original glazing remains intact on the front and rear ground floor.

Inside, there is good plasterwork and a curved staircase to the left of the hall. The property is enclosed by a low garden wall with four square, painted, corniced gatepiers.
