Description

Foundation stone laid 1925. Prominent 3-storey, 5-bay public building in inter-war classic. Ashlar, channelled to ground. 3 central bays recessed and divided by heavy channelled piers at ground. Central door. Doors in both outer projecting bays. Cornice and band course above ground. 3 central corniced windows with iron balconies separated by bulky pedestals, 3 windows to 2nd floor with decorative iron grills. Tall windows rising through 1st and 2nd floors in outer bays with balconies supported on corbels. Main cornice with large central parapet above bearing the words "Lanark Memorial Hall". Cornice and

stepped blocking course above. Low parapet with shallow projecting pedimented central section, over outer bays.

Pilastered Hall of Memory in entrance with cornice and coffered ceiling. Main hall to rear with large curved gallery. Lesser hall on 1st floor with coved ceiling.
