William Smellie Memorial Hospital, Lockhart Drive, Lanark

The William Smellie Memorial Hospital, designed by David Bryce in 1874, is a Scottish Baronial style building. It features a two-storey central block with single-storey wings that connect to projecting terminal wings, which are flanked by circular turrets. The structure is built of snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. The main block consists of three bays, with a central door flanked by narrow lights and one window in each of the flanking bays. The first floor has three windows, with the central window set within a wall-head gable, while the outer bays display prominent crow-stepped gables. The building has straight skews and a slate roof. There is one window in the linking bays and one in the gable end of the projecting wings. The turrets feature three narrow lights on both the ground and first floors, topped with conical fishscale slate roofs and iron finials. Modern ward extensions have been added at the rear.
