Walled Garden, Baronald

The Stable Block at Baronald is an early 19th century U-plan steading that was remodeled during the 1890s estate improvements by Sir John Burnet, incorporating elements of 17th century Scottish style. The building is constructed from local brown sandstone with contrasting cream sandstone dressings, which are later stugged. It features crowstepped gables and beaked skewputts, with pitched slated roofs that have lead ridge flashing and gable stacks.

The eastern entrance is flanked by a pair of tall relocated ashlar piers, which are square in plan with chamfered edges and flat pyramid caps.

The southern range consists of a 3-bay single-storey block that projects on the north courtyard elevation to the east. This range has a crowstepped eastern gable and a circular turret with a conical slated cap and a finial featuring scalloped lead flashing at the northeast angle, positioned to the left of the southern gate pier. To the center, there is a set-back 5-bay single-storey range, while to the west, there is a roofless 4-bay single-storey and loft block.

The western range is single-storey with a slated roof, which has been fire-damaged on the eastern side. It features a projecting gabled porch at the center, which has a timber diagonally-boarded tympanum and timber-bracketed eaves, along with a pitched slated roof.

The northern range, known as the cart-bay range, is single-storey with a taller single-storey and loft center block that has a capacious piended roof. It includes two original vertically-boarded cart-bay doors with arrow-slot type slit vents on the right side of the southern courtyard elevation. The center block has a 4-bay design with a gabled hay-loft that features a roundel opening in the crowstepped gablet. Additionally, there is a small triangular dovecot with three rows of flight holes to the left of the hayloft gablet and two rows of lights flanking the slope of the roof. The range steps at the northwest angle and has a 9-light casement window in the western gable.

To the southwest, there is a walled garden which is a long rectangular enclosure with the southwest corner cut at an oblique angle. The tall rubble walls have dressed stone margins and are stepped and coped at the wallhead, featuring a wide arched entrance in the long northwest wall.
