Description
Castlecliffe House, located on The Scores in St Andrews, was designed by David Bryce in 1869 and showcases a Scots baronial style. The house features crow-stepped gables, corbelling, coped stacks, and steep-pedimented dormer heads that break through the eaves. It is a two-storey structure with a raised basement. The west elevation consists of two bays with canted windows at the ground level; the northernmost bay is corbelled to a square above and has crow-stepped detailing. On the first floor, three windows break through the eaves and are topped with pedimented dormer heads. A circular turret, corbelled in two stages, is positioned above the southwest angle at the basement level. There is a projecting square bay on the south flank that is not original to the design. The exterior is constructed of snecked bull-faced ashlar with polished dressings, and it features sash windows, some of which have small-paned glazing. The roofs are covered with slate. The main entrance is accompanied by low ranges, including a conservatory to the west. The property is enclosed by a high garden wall with gatepiers.
