Description

Castle Wynd House, located at All Saints Episcopal Church on 28 North Castle Street in St Andrews, is a significant building completed in 1907, designed by architect John Douglas from Chester. The chancel features a Gothic style, constructed from snecked rubble and topped with a square pyramid-capped towerlet. The nave, courtyard, and ancillary buildings were added in 1924 by architect Paul Waterhouse. These structures are also made of snecked rubble, with some areas slated and others pantiled. They include an early 19th-century two-storey pantiled building at the junction with North Street.

The interior of the church is vaulted and includes aisles, showcasing a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, and Byzantine motifs. The exterior displays elements of Renaissance style, including a Roman Doric loggia facing the courtyard, while the street side features Flemish Gothic details. Castle Wynd House is part of a group of buildings to the north, which includes a three-storey structure with a crowstepped gable facing the street, built from rubble and dating back to the 17th century. Additionally, there is a five-storey V-fronted crowstepped tower along with other additions made by Paul Waterhouse in 1924, which serve as a Chaplaincy centre.
