1 Wellington Square, Ayr

1 Wellington Square in Ayr is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with a basement and attic, forming the end of a terrace. The building is constructed of painted ashlar and features banded rustication at the basement, a band course at the ground floor, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are architraved, with square brackets at the lower cill corners on the ground and first floors, and cornices above the ground floor windows.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central stepped platform that oversails the basement. It includes a corniced, consoled block-pedimented doorpiece with a timber door and a decorative looped letterbox fanlight. Above the door, there is a single window aligned at the first floor, and below, a glazed timber door at the basement level, with a narrow slit window to the left. The flanking bays feature regular fenestration at the basement, ground, and first floors, while the attic has a bipartite dormer on the right.

On the east side elevation, there is a single central window at the basement, with regular fenestration at the ground and first floors, topped by a broken pediment. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, with plate glass in the attic. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone skews, coped stacks, and circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The property also includes railings and a gate, with ashlar copes topped by spear-headed iron railings, and urn finials marking the sections, with a gate located to the outer right.
