Description

The burial ground on Old Street in Girvan features a triumphal arch built in 1908, set within a balustraded wall. The archway is supported by pairs of Roman Doric engaged columns that are widely spaced, with one similar pair on each return elevation. The structure includes a tall parapet and a walled forecourt, which is marked by square-plan corniced gatepiers and cast-iron gates. Additionally, there are two bold obelisks on each side wall between the angle piers. The site also contains some interesting monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries.
