97 Commercial Street, Lerwick

97 Commercial Street in Lerwick is an 18th-century, two-storey and attic tenement with a two-bay gable facing Commercial Street. The building features harled walls and harl-pointed rubble on the south elevation, with projecting cills at the windows.

On the north elevation, which faces Commercial Street, there is a modern shopfront at ground level, while the upper floors have regular window arrangements, except for a blank space in the attic on the left side. A large gablehead stack is present.

The east elevation is mostly blank, with windows flanking the centre on the first floor, although the window on the right has been infilled. There is a margined corner on the right side.

The west elevation is cement rendered and lined on the right, with a modern addition that projects at the first floor, and a margined corner on the left.

The building has timber sash and case windows, with plate glass on the first floor and four-pane windows in the attic. The roof is made of purple-grey slate, featuring a harled apex stack and cement-rendered skew copes with corbelled skewputts.
