Description

18th century. 2-storey and attic over concealed basement tenement on sloping site with 2-bay gable to Commercial Street and 3-bay elevations to closes flanking to N and S. Cement-rendered and lined shopfront, harl-pointed rubble walls elsewhere with sandstone and cement dressings. Projecting cills at windows.

W (COMMERCIAL STREET) ELEVATION: asymmetrical gable, painted shopfront at principal floor comprising door at left, 2-pane fixed-light with timber column at corner to right. Single boarded window at 1st floor in bay to right; single plate glass timber sash and case attic window to gablehead in bay at left.

S ELEVATION: 3 bays, basement partially exposed with vertically-boarded timber door to outer right. Infilled door at principal floor in centre bay, additional 4-panel door with 2-pane fanlight inserted immediately to right; bipartite window with 12-pane timber sash and case glazing in bay to right; plate glass fixed-light shop window at corner to outer left. Regular 12-pane timber sash and case fenestration at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: single small windows centring elevation at principal and 1st floors, lower opening infilled.

Purple-grey slate roof, stugged sandstone apex stack with concrete cope and circular cans, bracketted skewputts.
