84 Commercial Street, Lerwick

84 Commercial Street in Lerwick is an 18th-century tenement building that stands two storeys and an attic high, with a concealed basement, situated on a sloping site. The building features a two-bay gable facing Commercial Street and three-bay elevations on the northern and southern sides. The shopfront is cement-rendered and lined, while the other walls are constructed of harl-pointed rubble with sandstone and cement dressings. The windows have projecting cills.

On the west elevation, which faces Commercial Street, the gable is asymmetrical. The principal floor has a painted shopfront with a door on the left and a two-pane fixed-light window with a timber column at the corner on the right. There is a single boarded window on the first floor in the right bay and a single plate glass timber sash and case attic window at the gablehead in the left bay.

The south elevation consists of three bays, with the basement partially exposed, featuring a vertically-boarded timber door on the outer right. There is an infilled door in the centre bay at the principal floor, and immediately to the right, there is an additional four-panel door with a two-pane fanlight above it. The right bay has a bipartite window with 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the outer left corner has a plate glass fixed-light shop window. The first floor has regular 12-pane timber sash and case windows.

The north elevation has a single small window centered at both the principal and first floors, with the lower opening infilled. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and features a stugged sandstone apex stack with a concrete cope and circular cans, along with bracketed skewputts.
