St Helens, Waverley Road, Melrose

St Helens, located on Waverley Road in Melrose, is a building from 1806 that features three bays and is a single storey with a basement. The south front has a central bay that is advanced in a segmental bow, which extends up to form an attic storey. The entrance is situated on the ground floor and includes a fanlight and sidelights framed by a Tuscan pilastrade, accessible by steps that rise over part of the raised basement. The attic floor has a central tripartite window with a cast-iron balcony that spans the width of the bow. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble with polished ashlar dressings and angle quoins. It has a piended slated roof adorned with two rows of octagonal chimneys, with six on each side flanking the central bow. There is a later two-storey addition to the west, which is also topped with a piended slated roof.
