Description
Tweed Cottage, located on Waverley Road in Melrose, was likely built in 1869 and before 1873 for the Waverley Hydropathic Company Ltd. It originally served as the residence for the pumpman who managed the water supply from St Helen's Well. The cottage is constructed of mass concrete and features a fine render that mimics ashlar, although the ground floor has been pebble-dashed.
This two-storey cottage has an asymmetrical design and is said to have large tanks in the roof. There is a porch on the east side and a first-floor entrance on the south side. The first-floor windows and door are adorned with bold cast mouldings around the reveals, and the apron panels are also boldly moulded and cast. The windows primarily feature four-pane glazing. The porch is covered with fish scale slate, and the cottage has a slate roof with a large central chimney stack.
