Description
St Ann's Well is a well-house cottage built in 1815 for visitors to the spa, with an adjoining wing added in 1860. The cottage is constructed of random rubble and features a hipped old tile roof. It has two storeys, with two windows on the first floor that are 2-light leaded wood casements with Gothick glazing bars. The ground floor has a wide square-headed opening. Spring water flows from a marble dolphin's head into a marble scallop-shell bowl supported by a leaf-ornamented stem. There is also a marble tablet with a verse from 1892.
The later wing, which is taller and half-octagonal in plan, is also two storeys and made of rubble with brick and stone dressings, topped with a slate roof and wide eaves. It features round-headed 2-light casements with forked glazing bars on the first floor, and cambered-headed windows with round-headed lights on the ground floor. The door opening has a similar cambered head, and there is a flight of steps with ornamental cast-iron railings leading to the upper floor.
