Description
There are two gas street lamps, both made by the Horseley Company of Tipton, with one dated 1869. Two 20th-century replicas to the south are not included in this listing.
The first lamp is made of cast iron and features a Windsor lantern supported by four scrolled brackets. It stands on a tapering octagonal cast-iron column that has a heavily-moulded octagonal ring. The base is moulded and set on an octagonal plinth with chamfered and stepped stops. The ladder rest is octagonal with octagonal knop finials, although one arm of the ladder rest is missing.
The second lamp is also constructed of cast iron and has a Windsor lantern supported on four later curved brackets. It similarly stands on a tapering octagonal cast-iron column with a heavily-moulded octagonal ring and a moulded base on an octagonal plinth with chamfered and stepped stops. The ladder rest is octagonal with octagonal knop finials, and like the first lamp, one arm of the ladder rest is missing. The rear of the plinth is cast with the founder's mark and the date 1869.
