Description
Abbey Gateway, located on Abbey Road, is a 15th-century structure that has been restored. The north elevation features two tiers of traceried panels, typically with cinquefoiled heads. It includes a pointed archway with a square hood mould and quatrefoils in the spandrels. Above the archway is an oriel window, flanked by traceried 2-light windows on each side. The gateway is topped with an embattled parapet that has a similar design. The south elevation was largely rebuilt in the 16th century using red brick and includes Tudor-style mullioned 2-light windows with dripmoulds. The structure also has three gables adorned with ornamental bargeboards, added around 1830.
