Description
Aldwyn Tower is an Italianate building dating to circa 1850. Originally known as Aldwyn Tower Hotel, it is constructed in red brick with stucco dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor features channelled rustication. The building’s prominent feature is a tower, with the top floor rendered. This tower has a rendered top floor with three arcaded bays; the centre of each face contains a window above a Venetian window. Most other windows are round-headed with glazing bars. The doorway to the road is flanked by stucco pilasters and has a tall, carved entablature above a radiating fanlight. On the side elevation, the first-floor windows are accentuated with cornices and cills on tabs, while the ground-floor windows have round heads. The chimney stacks are panelled in stucco. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the local townscape.
