Description
Fordel Villa, located at 10 High Cross Avenue in Melrose, is a mid-19th century building with later 19th century additions that have since been subdivided. The villa has two storeys and features a south front where the original house is on the left. This part consists of a three-bay block with an advanced, gabled centre bay that includes a canted window spanning both the ground and first floors. The entrance, which was formerly accessed through a porch on the right-hand flank, is now reached via a screen that connects the original house to a later projecting wing on the right. This wing is also two storeys tall and has a square projecting bay with tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors. The building is constructed from coursed squared rubble and features stugged and polished freestone dressings. It has piended slated roofs and rectangular coped stacks.
