Description

Gogar Park is a villa located on Glasgow Road in Edinburgh, dating from the earlier to mid 19th century, specifically before 1853. This two-storey building features a gabled, rambling plan and is constructed from squared and snecked honey-coloured sandstone, with ashlar dressings and margins. The villa has broad, bracketed eaves and a base course. The principal ground floor windows are adorned with classical surrounds, and there are consoles supporting an entablature with a pulvinated frieze. A gablet dormerhead is positioned over the first-floor windows.

On the southeast elevation, the main block has three bays, with a lower three-bay block to the left. The central door features a tripartite doorpiece with glazed sidelights and a large rectangular fanlight above, leading to a four-panelled door. There is a bipartite window on the first floor. To the right, a gabled bay includes a full-height canted window at the centre, topped with a decorative blocking course. To the left, a broad bay advances with a large window at the ground floor and a smaller window above. The three lower bays to the left have symmetrically disposed windows, with a bipartite window at the ground floor on the right.

The east elevation also has three bays, with a broad advanced bay on the outer left and symmetrically disposed windows.

On the north elevation, there is a broad gabled bay advanced to the outer left, featuring a tripartite projecting window at the ground floor and a window above. A tripartite door is located at the centre of the two bays to the right, with symmetrically disposed windows on the first floor. This side includes the rear elevation of the kitchen wing.

The west elevation shows a jamb to the outer right and a canted bay spanning the west gable, with the roof interrupted by the flue of an apex stack. There is a two-bay left return with a lean-to shed on the left, and a broad gabled bay at the centre, where the windows are off-centre to the left. A lower L-plan block is advanced to the outer left.
