Description
Tower Cottage, located on Abbotsford Road in Darnick, dates from around 1830. Originally a single-storey, rectangular cottage, it was later enlarged to a T-plan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The south-facing front features three bays with a central doorway that has deep cavetto reveals. The cottage has a broad-eaved, slated, piended roof and is harled with ashlar window and angle margins. There are tall octagonal stacks on rectangular plinths at either side, and the rear retains original lying-pane glazing.
To the west, there is a later 19th-century addition that has matching details and irregular fenestration. An early 20th-century addition to the east includes a canted bay. The property is complemented by garden walls to the north and west, which are made of rubble with a flagged coping, and there are a pair of rectangular ashlar gatepiers at the road.
